Aromatherapy Alchemy: Unlocking the Essence of Essential Oils for Inner Balance.
Share
Where to find the essence of a plant, its spirit? Of course, in essential oil.
Through this magical substance, the spirit of the plant flows with us, affecting our inner world and our state. Invigorates or, on the contrary, calms, heals our spiritual wounds, harmonizes. Essential oil is the quintessence of all the living forces and beneficial properties of plants. That's why it's so active.
Essential oils are volatile compounds that, penetrating into the nasal cavity, are perceived by special receptors that capture odor. This signal is then transmitted to the brain and affects the human nervous system, his emotional and physical state. We often don’t even notice how aromas calm or invigorate us; it happens unconsciously. These signals can affect the immune system, hormonal levels, even sleep and memory of a person. Aromatherapy is based on this property of esters. And it effectively helps with migraines, insomnia, allergies, digestive disorders, muscle tension, cramps, spasms associated with an emotional state. In natural cosmetics, essential oils play the role of active ingredients, as well as conductors of other beneficial components into the deep layers of the skin. The list of known therapeutic uses and beneficial effects of essential oils is immense, and science is very slowly catching up with the ancient wisdom that popularized their use.Â
Although still in its infancy, the scientific study of these healing oils has already supported many of their traditional uses:
Lavender is one of the most studied oils. In addition to potent wound healing properties, it has powerful anxiolytic (calming) and mood-boosting effects by stimulating alpha brain waves*.Â
Rose, orange, bergamot, lemon, and sandalwood have also been shown to relieve anxiety, stress, and depression.Â
Frankincense, rose, and lavender are successfully used by midwives to reduce postpartum anxiety and fear, increase feelings of well-being, and reduce the need for pain medications during delivery.Â
Peppermint oil reduces nausea and vomiting, aids digestion, and treats a tension headache as efficiently as over-the-counter pain medications.Â
Neroli oil was found to reduce blood pressure and pre-procedure anxiety in colonoscopy patients.Â
Citrus oil strengthens the immune system, restores stress induced immuno-sepression, and reduces depression.
Fennel, anise, sage, and clary sage contain estrogen-like compounds, which seem to relieve symptoms of premenstrual syndrome and menopause.Â
Many essential oils have strong antibacterial and anti-fungal activity verified with in vitro tests.Â
While Inhalation is suited to rapid calming of the emotions due to the direct nose-brain connection, Topical application will physically soothe the body, specifically the nervous system.Â
